The Secret To Getting More Opportunities

I have heard people say” If only I had a great opportunity”. The truth is great opportunities are everywhere!. The problem is most people don’t know how to see an opportunity when it comes their way.

Many things make it difficult for us to recognize genuine opportunities:

1. There is just so much information and advertising it can be very overwhelming!

2. We can have a bit of a negative attitude towards what we see online and this can be like   a “blockage” to our options.

3. Self limiting beliefs eg. “It probably works for them but it won’t for me”……etc

Sometimes all we really need to do is give ourselves a break and just do something!

Giving yourself the freedom to make a mistake is sometimes all it takes to start seeing genuine opportunities.

Opportunities Multiply As They Are Seized

If you believe the above quote ” Opportunities multiply as they are seized” (Sun Tzu author of “the art of war” and military strategist) then the question you need to ask yourself is “which opportunity am I going to begin with”. What you learn from the first opportunity you take, often won’t be totally what you are looking for, but it becomes a stepping stone to something else along your opportunity path.

Just think about it for a minute, opportunities always lead to getting to know someone. After all ,there must be someone who developed the opportunity in the first place. (Even if you are the person developing the opportunity then you had to talk to someone in order to develop it). If each opportunity you take builds on the previous relationship you developed then before long you find yourself in a situation where your ‘people’ and your ‘opportunities’ are multiplying.

So What Is The Secret?

In plain english: The secret to getting more opportunities lies in taking advantage of the opportunities in front of you.

My Top Tip

“Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is knowing when to forego an opportunity’ (a quote from Benjamin Disreali, British Prime Minister in the 1800s.)

The more successful you become, the more opportunities you get. At this point a little wisdom is needed. If you chase too many of the opportunities that come your way it will actually cause you to go backwards. Give yourself permission to say no and just deal with the ones that fit your general direction and purpose.
